Kurt Westi: Recordings on Danacord

Kurt Westi (1939-96) studied voice and violin at the Royal Danish Academy of Music and got further training in Berlin and Mantua.
After engagements in Hannover and Kiel he joined the ensemble at the Royal Danish Opera in 1966 and stayed there until 1979.
Between1980 and 1986, he was a member of the Norwegian National Opera in Oslo.
In 1986-89, he was with the opera in Mannheim, singing roles such as Alvaro, Riccardo, Don Carlo, Radames, Cavaradossi, Hoffmann, Rodolfo and Pinkerton.
In 1992-93, he was with the Deutsche Oper Berlin, but also performed in places such as Düsseldorf, Leipzig, Trieste and Madrid.
He recorded for Philips, EMI, Deutsche Grammophon, Chandos and other labels, and has made an international opera recording for Decca in Schulhoff's The Flame. At the end of his career, Kurt Westi had great success in Copenhagen with Calaf in Turandot and Pollione in Norma.
Kurt Westi was also a prominent recitalist and concert singer and had numerous engagements with symphony orchestras all over Europe and in the USA. Westi was soloist in Herman D. Koppel's oratorio Moses, recorded by DaCapo.
