Björn Asker (born 1941) studied with Hugo Hasslo in Stockholm and Tito Gobbi in Rome.
He was a leading singer at the Royal Opera House in Stockholm between 1969 and 1997. His wide repertoire rested on the great baritone roles of Mozart: Don Giovanni and the Count in Le Nozze di Figaro; of Wagner: Wotan in Die Walküre, Der fliegende Holländer, Telramund in Lohengrin Kurwenal in Tristan und Isolde, Alberich in the Ring; and of Verdi: Falstaff, Jago in Otello, Macbeth, Simon Boccanegra and Rigoletto.
He took part in first performances of operas by Werle, Wihlo-Hallberg and Edlund.
He was a frequent recitalist and premiered a number of works by contemporary composers like Koppel, Karkoff, Welin, Bell and Chini.
He made guest appearances in Italy, Spain, France, Germany, Poland, Russia, the USA, Mexico and Israel.
In 1990, he was appointed court singer by King Karl XVI Gustav of Sweden.
Married to Lone Koppel since 1983.
