These 10 CDs contains an unbelievable number of 26 Danish Violin Concertos, nearly all the concertos composed for the instrument during the past 200 years. The Danish Radio planned studio recordings during the 1960s and 70s with Kai Laursen, the concert master of the Southern Jutland Symphony Orchestra. It was an undertaking not likely to be done ever more. Many of the concertos were heard only the second time after their first performance and in some instances it was labourous just to locate the score. Only three of the concertos included here are not first recordings and none of the rest are ever likely to be recorded again before long. This unique collections is a musical document of no comparison and gives the listener of once-in-a-lifetime chance to hear violin concertos from the past 200 years limited to only one country. The truly original and sincere work of Kai Laursen can be admired from the early Mozart-inspired concertos, over Romantic concertos clearly modelled after Mendelssohn and Bruch to the late-Romantic masterpieces of Børresen, Enna and A. Gade presenting also the very modern time of Bentzon, Thybo and Holmboe.

With Kai Laursen many of the leading conductors in Denmark collaborated as well as all the regional orchestras of Denmark. The sound is clear and present, many of the recordings are Stereo, and the notations in the booklet also has long articles about each composer as well as an extensive survey of the concerto genre in Denmark. As an extra plus the cover paintings on each booklet were done by Kai Laursen.
